7th Drawing Room Lisbon, from 23 to 27 October, at the Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes
The 7th edition of Drawing Room Lisbon returns from 23 to 27 October 2024 to celebrate contemporary drawing – this year alongside 23 art galleries and around 70 artists, both Portuguese and international, including two historic masters: Helena Almeida (Portugal, 1934-2018) and Hermann Nitsch (Austria, 1938-2022).
With its international character and attentive to the necessary balance between continuity and renewal, the Drawing Room occupies the Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes with the most important Portuguese galleries, some present for the first time in this edition. Thus, the usual Vera Cortês, Filomena Soares, 3+1 Arte Contemporânea, Bruno Múrias and Miguel Nabinho, from Lisbon, Lehman + Silva and Pedro Oliveira, from Porto, and Fonseca Macedo – Arte Contemporânea, from the Azores, are joined for the first time by Galeria Francisco Fino, with a solo exhibition by Gabriel Abrantes, and Galeria Nuno Centeno, based in Porto, which will present the work of José Pedro Croft. There are also four international galleries: the Spanish Galería Siboney and Galería Silvestre, the German Jahn und Jahn and Monitor, based in Italy.
The 7th Drawing Room also marks the launch of a new programme designed to present the best of international contemporary drawing and welcome new galleries: the Visiting Room. As part of this initiative, three proposals are planned: “the immersive abstraction of Carsten Fock, represented by Zeller Van Almsick (Vienna), the dramatic figuration of Susanna Inglada, represented by Galerie Maurits van de Laar (The Hague) and the graphics as manic as they are fertile by Olivier Gruber, represented by Invisible Galerie (Marseille).” A new immaterial section also challenges visitors to listen to the drawing, combining the curatorship of sound with the visual arts. Rodrigo Leão, an artist invited by Drawing Room and the Millennium bcp Foundation, will be responsible for giving “soundtrack” to the works on show.
In addition to the exhibition of the ten finalists of the IV Flad / DR LX Drawing Prize, the usual sections dedicated to books (Editorial Space) and thought (Millennium Art Talks) offer parallel moments of presentations, talks and debates – the dates, times and details of which can be found here.
