Cosmunidades – Ciclos de Arte at PENHA SCO until 7 December
Cosmunidades – Ciclos de Arte (Cosmunities – Art Cycles) is a cross-disciplinary and collaborative programme coordinated by the artists’ collective Penhasco Arte Cooperativa. Between 14 September and 7 December, at the association’s headquarters in Penha de França, the 1st edition of the project is made up of five programming cycles – each signed by a particular curator – which include public sharing of artist residencies, performances, workshops and conversations around social, post-colonial, ecological and gender issues.
As part of the performing arts section, Tita Maravilha proposes the #MenosPrecárias cycle, Joana Levi organises the Corpo por Terra [Body for Earth] cycle and Marcos Moraes holds two editions of the Cozinha Performática [Performative Kitchen] cycle.
The first features LGBTQIAP+, immigrant and/or racialised artists and collectives: Criolense Prato Feito, with a masterclass performance; Enana, in performance/concert; Muerte a la Norma/Feña Celedón, in performance; and the Escolinha de Performance workshop, led by Tita.
In the second, ecological conflicts and the crisis of the body will be problematised through the performances Fossil [Excerpt], by Ritó Natálio; Assentar sobre a subida das águas, by Sónia Baptista; Rasante, by Levi herself; and the training course Cuiring Ecologies: encar(n)ando nossas naturezas complexas [Queering Ecologies: facing and embodying our complex natures], with Dani D’Emilia.
Finally, different culinary practices and the sharing of food serve as a motto for performance actions, film screenings and debates. The people invited to the third cycle are musician and teacher Chalo Correia, who will talk about the influences of Angolan culture; Veronica Pinheiro, Daniel Grimoni and indigenous educator Cristiane Takuá (Selvagem/BR project), who will take part in an online conversation about non-Western pedagogies; and Adriana Reyes, with the performance Coreografias Selváticas.
In the area of mediation and training, the last two cycles are curated by Andreia Coutinho (Colectivo FACA), who proposes an Intersectional Look at Blackness in Portugal with Rafael de Carvalho (Oxyetronave), Eloïse Grace Winter and activist Liliana Correia (Colectivo Gaio), and Julia Salem with Corpo-Espaço, artist residencies and public sharing by Gustavo Ciríaco and Carolina Canteli, as well as Salem herself.
Cosmunidades has artistic direction and general coordination by Joana Levi, Julia Salem and Marcos Moraes. See the full programme here.
