Submissions open for the LOEWE FOUNDATION 2025 Craft Prize, awarded at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid next spring

Submissions are now open for the LOEWE FOUNDATION 2025 Craft Prize. The Prize aims to distinguish and support international artists who demonstrate an exceptional ability to create objects of superior aesthetic value – pieces that respond to a formula and language of their own, inspiring “dialogues that didn’t exist before”, in the words of Jonathan Anderson, LOEWE’s creative director and conceiver of the Prize.

Anyone over the age of 18 who works in a craft-based profession can apply. The winner will receive 50,000 euros and the two honourable mentions will receive 5,000 euros each.

The jury, made up of artists, essayists, curators and experts, will analyse all the works submitted to select a group of up to 30 works. The choice will be based on a series of key criteria: originality, clear artistic vision and merit, precise execution, material excellence, innovative value and a distinct authorial mark. The artists and works on this shortlist will be part of an exhibition at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid next spring – when the LOEWE FOUNDATION 2025 Craft Prize will be awarded.

Launched in 2016, the LOEWE Craft Prize has continually celebrated and showcased the excellence and inventiveness of contemporary craftsmanship. The Prize aims to recognise the importance and timeliness of craft expression in global cultural contexts, highlighting artists whose talent, vision and uniqueness set new benchmarks for the future of the arts. The creation of the Prize also honours LOEWE’s own founding mission, which was established as a collective craft workshop back in 1846.

The 2024 edition of the Prize received more than 3,900 entries from 124 countries, honouring Andrés Anza as its winner. The announcement was made at the opening of the LOEWE FOUNDATION 2024 Craft Prize exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, which can also be viewed online at craftprizeexhibition.loewe.com.

Applications for the 8th edition of the Prize are accepted until 30 October 2024. More information at loewecraftprize.com.
