Open call for Affective Ecologies: an Artist Residency an Artistic Residency in the contemporary relevance of Amílcar Cabral’s thought
HANGAR – Artistic Research Centre, with the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, announces the open call for Affective Ecologies, an Artist Residency an Artistic Residency in the contemporary relevance of Amílcar Cabral’s thought. The programme will run for 10 days in October 2024 and is aimed at young visual artists from Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe, aged between 25 and 35.
Commemorating the 50th anniversary of 25 April and reflecting in particular on the legacy of Amílcar Cabral and the indispensability of anti-colonial struggles for Portuguese democratisation, the residency encourages artists to explore strategies between ecological, social and political regeneration. The project, from a decolonial and intersectional perspective, considers the importance of historical memory in and for contemporary practices.
During their residency in Lisbon, the participating artists will be accompanied by a team of curators and creators through training activities, studio work and visits to museums, galleries and art studios. The programme will culminate in a public talk and presentation of the works produced in the auditorium of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation’s Modern Art Centre.
Applications are open until 18 July 2024, from which four proposals will be selected. The artists will receive financial and logistical support, including a creation grant of 725 euros and 500 euros for the production of the works. Applications and more information here.
