Applications open for the new edition of the FLAD Drawing Prize

From 2 April to 9 May, applications are open for the FLAD Drawing Prize, an initiative of the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) that aims to distinguish and support promising artists in the field of drawing. The prize – worth 20,000 euros – is aimed at artists of Portuguese nationality or residency for more than five years, aged 28 or over at the time of application.

Developed in partnership with Drawing Room Lisboa, the FLAD Drawing Prize has been recognising talent and stimulating the production of contemporary drawing on the Portuguese art scene since 2021. Previous winners include Pedro Tropa in 2021, Maria Capelo in 2022 and Carla Filipe in 2023.

The process of selecting the winner will take place in two stages. In the first phase, the applications will be assessed by a selection panel made up of José Marmeleira (critic), João Sarmento SJ (coordinator at the Brotéria gallery), Sofia Ponte (professor at IADE – European University) and Filipa da Rocha Nunes (FLAD representative). Ten finalists will be selected, whose work will be exhibited at Drawing Room Lisboa 2024, which will take place between 23 and 27 October at the National Society of Fine Arts. During the fair, a second selection panel, made up of Nuno Nunes-Ferreira (artist), Mónica Álvarez Careaga (director of Drawing Room Lisboa) and António Pinto Ribeiro, representing FLAD, will select and announce a winner from among the artists chosen in the first phase.
