Applications open for the 15th edition of the EDP Foundation New Artists Award
Applications are open from 13 March to 30 April 2024 for the 15th edition of the EDP Foundation New Artists Award, a biennial event created in 2000 to promote and distinguish new talents in the plastic and visual arts in and from Portugal. The prize is aimed at artists with a short individual career, with no age restrictions. Artists of Portuguese nationality, resident or not in Portugal, and foreign artists living in the country are eligible.
The EDP Foundation’s initiative has systematically contributed to stimulating new trajectories in the Portuguese art scene, proving to be fundamental for the start or consolidation of notable national and international paths. The winners include Joana Vasconcelos, Leonor Antunes, Vasco Araújo, Carlos Bunga, André Romão, Gabriel Abrantes, Priscila Fernandes, Mariana Silva, Claire de Santa Coloma, Diana Policarpo and, from the most recent competition, Adriana Proganó.
The applications will be assessed by a selection panel made up of curators Catarina Rosendo, Luís Silva and MAAT deputy director Sérgio Mah. Five to eight finalists will be chosen, whose work will then be shown to the public at the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology. The prize for the winner is 20,000 euros.
