Preview: VARIOUS OTHERS 2023
VARIOUS OTHERS opens on September 7th, with a program that brings together institutional spaces, artist-run spaces and galleries, along with several exhibitions, conferences and events – in what can certainly be considered the return of contemporary art in Munich after a long Summer.
The 27 participating spaces, as well as the 17 international partners and more than 200 artists that are part of this program, attest to the scope and reach of VARIOUS OTHERS, in a city that builds bridges between different geographies and temporalities through a policy of welcoming galleries and foreign guests.
Highlights include the programs of Knust Kunz Gallery Editions, Britta Rettberg, Sperling, JO VAN DE LOO, max goelitz, Galerie Klüser, Walter Storms, Jahn und Jahn, Françoise Heitsch, Galerie Rüdiger Schöttle, Nagel Draxler and beacon. In participating institutions, not to be missed: Noor Abuarafeh at Kunstverein München, Sarah Morris at Espace Louis Vuitton München, Zhanna Kadyrova at NS-Dokumentationszentrum, and Franz Erhard Walther and Santiago Sierra at Kunstraum München. WangShui and the exhibition Inside Other Spaces. Environments by Women Artists 1956 – 1976 open at Haus der Kunst.
Finally, the artist-run spaces will showcase an international program, including Ruine Munich, GiG Munich and Rosa Stern Space – which will also host VARIOUS OTHERS Night, with concerts, installations and performances, taking place exclusively at ZIRKA, during the night of September 9. Es ist Herbst, wir fallen concludes this list of activities, an exhibition curated by the artist Gregor Hildebrandt, with several private collections, rarely made available to the public.
As part of the program of VARIOUS OTHERS in Munich, on September 7th, at 4 pm, Umbigo will present its most recent edition, as well as participate in a conversation about the importance of publications in the artistic ecosystem, together with Hubert Kretschmer, director of Arquive Artist Publication, and artist Jonas Beuchert of Taube Edition.
