Ancestry Traveller invites visual artists to join a challenge to explore, through the art of drawing, questions on identity and genetics. This call is the apex of a research project on HUMAN DIVERSITY IN THE MAGALHÃES CIRCUNAVEGATION SPACE: genetics, history and culture, with a three-stage exploratory and selective process.

• Motivation letter, small portfolio, biography, signing of commitment to participate in all subsequent phases;
• Selection of a maximum of 12 artists + workshop on genetic ancestry testing, guided by researcher Luísa Pereira;
• Creative research – individual process of drawing production and exhibition. The exhibition may travel to other places.

Production support

The authors chosen to be featured in the exhibition will be awarded a certificate of participation, an ancestry report, a production support fee of €400 and a copy of the book-catalogue.

May 17 + July 19, 2023 – Workshop with researcher Luísa Pereira.

October 30, 2023 – Final drawings submission.

End of 2023, beginning of 2024 – Exhibition opening.
