Applications open for the 2023 FLAD Drawing Award

In a partnership with Drawing Room Lisboa, FLAD will award a €20.000 prize to the best in Portuguese drawing. After the 2022 edition’s remarkable success, which awarded the prize to artist Maria Capelo, FLAD (Luso-American Development Foundation) is now organizing the third edition of the FLAD Drawing Award, whose purpose is to acknowledge artistic talent in Portugal and support promising artists from the country.

Between April 3 and May 3, all artists of Portuguese nationality or foreigners residing in Portugal for more than five years and aged 28 or over may apply for the prize.

The competition will have two phases. In the first, 10 finalists will be selected, who will be able to present their work at the 2023 edition of Drawing Room Lisboa in October. The finalists will also open the doors of their studios for visits that will be part of the complementary activities of Drawing Room Lisboa.

The selected artist will be known on October 28 during an event at Drawing Room Lisboa and will receive a prize of €20.000.

The artistic area chosen was drawing because of its considerable weight in FLAD’s Contemporary Art Collection and because it is an artistic expression with a strong relationship with the art creator.
