The X edition of Jardins Efémeros
“The beginning is uncertainty. The end is fascination” – this is the motto that opens the editorial or curatorial concept of the programme for Jardins Efémeros’22. Created and directed by Sandra Oliveira, Jardins Efémeros is music and art festival that strives and lives of the city of Viseu, crossing Culture and Nature, Past and Contemporaneity, Art and Exploration. Uncertainty is, thus, the mainframe for this research, experimentation, deviation and quest, keeping in mind that it is the wandering path that really matters.
In the music, it’s the versatility of Pino Palladino, Sam Gendel, Blake Milles and Abe Rounds’ work that constitute the main performances of this edition. Pino Palladino, one must remember, is one of the most cherished international bassist, with a career highly prized, and Sam Gendel has been pointed as the prolific saxophonist and producer. Vladislav Delay’s participation is also one to keep in mind, with music yet to be heard and a diverse repertoire filled with originals and several well-known collaborations.
An Open Call for sound artists and a jury made by Beatriz Rodrigues, Catarina Machado and Sandra Oliveira has selected four participations in a total sum of 67 applications: Yamila, whose performative practice is deeply rooted in dance triggered by electronic and analogic sounds, mixing them with tradition and experimentation; Nuno Mourão, who will present his work on percussion; Wipeout Beat, a group of three veterans from the music scene of Coimbra, author of No more nights; and finally Rachika Nayar, a composer from Brooklyn who has been exploring the digital processing of guitar sounds.
Cidade Invisível is an exhibition about the city, the urban space and the architecture, with a series of proposals that enrol a collaborative effort between the students of Escola Superior de Educação de Viseu and the students of Escola Secundária Viriato, organized by the Collective of artists LP2, by Paula Rodrigues (ESEV), Ana Paula Barbosa (ESV) and Paula Soares (PNA).
Regarding the public service, participation, reflection, and democracy are the guiding themes for a number of workshops at the recently implemented project Casa da Imaginação, by Jardins Efémeros. More than one hundred sessions will develop critical and creative skills that are topical for our democratic life.
The X edition of Jardins Efémeros will happen from 6 to 18 July, with free entrance. For more info about the programme, click here.
