Open Call: No Entulho @ ArtWorks — until June 20!
The third cycle of a well-known programme in the national art scene begins now: the No Entulho art residencies. It’s the third strike by ArtWorks – a multidisciplinary organization that since 2013 is in an industrial park in Amorim, Póvoa de Varzim – with an important novelty this time. It’s a double onslaught: in partnership with Pedreira (Campanhã, Porto) and HOME by Ronan Mckenzie (London, UK), ArtWorks is organising a double Open Call.
The project’s essence is the same: in an encounter between art and industry, the No Entulho art residencies’ programme attempts to find emerging artists that explore the potentialities of industrial surplus, stimulating the participation of the working community in the execution process of their projects and the exchange of knowledge among those involved. It’s a place of sharing: of materials, tools, spaces and expertise.
Many creators are already part of this story: between 2017 and 2019, 19 artists have passed through ArtWorks’ facilities, where they materialised their ideas, taking advantage of the organisation’s material, technical and human resources. The surrounding environment influences the creation process. The conditions given by ArtWorks are preponderant in the development of the artistic projects – in particular, the factory’s location. It’s a place that invites us to rethink not only the potentialities of surplus but also its production models. It’s a territory dedicated to reinvention.
In this double Open Call, ArtWorks will consider applications submitted by all individual artists (national or international), provided they meet the eligibility criteria of each of the partner entities. Artists should be aware of the criteria of Pedreira and HOME by Ronan Mckenzie (they are not the same) before submitting their applications: Pedreira is aimed at trans, non-binary and gender-fluid artists living in Portugal – working in any artistic field or across disciplines, with a special focus on visual, sound, installation, performance and multimedia creation; HOME by Ronan Mckenzie is aimed at black artists (who identify as women) in the UK – and there is no technical or format limitation.
The Open Call ends on 20 June, winning artists are announced in July and the art residencies’ period runs from September 15 to November 15. We invite you to check the websites of ArtWorks, No Entulho, Pedreira and HOME by Ronan Mckenzie. Note: you can apply through the pages indicated by the two partner entities.
