Luisa Cunha wins the EDP Foundation Art Grand Prize 2021
Luisa Cunha is the recipient of the EDP Foundation Art Grand Prize 2021, an artist whose large experience in art has been thoroughly demonstrated in several anthological, solo and group exhibitions and is now duly highlighted.
The jury stresses her experimental boldness alongside the international works in the dematerialization of the art, the multidisciplinary quality of her portfolio and her influence amongst the younger generations.
Composed by Benjamin Weil (Modern Art Centre, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation), Philippe Vergne (Serralves Contemporary Art Museum) Teresa Patrício, ex-president of the Serralves Foundation, and Tobi Meier (Lisbon Municipal Galleries), José Manuel dos Santos (EDP Foundation), Miguel Coutinho (EDP Foundation) e Vera Pinto Pereira (EDP Foundation) the jury highlights also the complex and original conceived by Cunha throughout her career and her work with sound and space.
Past winners include Lourdes Castro (2000), Mário Cesariny (2002), Álvaro Lapa (2004), Eduardo Batarda (2007), Jorge Molder (2010), Ana Jotta (2013) and Artur Barrio (2016).
In addition to the 50.000€ award, a retrospective is to be assembled soon as well as the publication of a catalogue which is intended to be “a historiographic and bibliographic reference”.
