Artistas Plásticas em Portugal e Fragmentos de Viagens na Obra de Julião Sarmento launched at MNAC

Tomorrow, September 15, the book Artistas Plásticas em Portugal [Portuguese Female Artists in Portugal] will be launched at the MNAC – National Museum of Contemporary Art, at 6 pm.

Coordinated by Sandra Leandro and the participation of the writers Mariana Roquette Teixeira, Sandra Vieira Jürgens, Ana Raquel Gouveia, José-Luís Porfírio, Emília Ferreira, Raquel Henriques da Silva, Hilda Moreira de Frias, Isabel Nogueira, Maria João Gamito, Paulo Simões Nunes and Laura Castro, this is a title published by Manufactura Editora, which compiles a series of texts about some of the most representative modern and contemporary Portuguese female artists. From Maria Augusta Bordalo Pinheiro to Lourdes Castro, from Ana Hatherly to Gabriela Albergaria, the book presents a diversified number of expressions and ways of exploring art in Portugal.

On September 25, also at MNAC, between 3 pm and 5 pm, Maria João Castro will present the coordination of Fragmentos de Viagem na Obra de Julião Sarmento [roughly translated as Fragments of Travels in Julião Sarmento’s Work], edited by Art Travel. A round table will follow with the participation of the artist Julião Sarmento, Alda Costa, Alexandre Melo, Cristina Azevedo Tavares, Isabel Nogueira, Joaquim Sapinho, José Luís Porfírio, João Pinharanda, Raquel Henriques da Silva and Emília Ferreira. This is also a compilation of texts, all regarding some of the artist’s travels which are then, in some way or another, transferred into his work.

It is important to stress and remember that both events are subject to the national health organization’s measures and guidelines.
