Saâdane Afif has been nominated the convener for the upcoming fourth edition of Bergen Assembly, which will happen in 2022 in the Norwegian city of Bergen.

Bergen Assembly has been paving the way to become one of the most interesting and radical art events, after reinventing the biennial model and proposing a critical reading between art, politics, activism, critique and history. On the uncertainty of the proposed model, a rich and fruitful environment grows for debate, experimentation and the search for new models merging art and local and global communities.

Known for his multimodal and adventurous curriculum, Saâdane Afif is a French artist whose works don’t quite fit the modern taxonomic culture. With projects crossing the digital, the documental, the musical and the lyric, some of them conceived on a collaborative and shared authorship basis, Afif is the natural choice to coordinate the next Bergen Assembly. From his portfolio, we highlight the participation in documenta 12, the 56th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, the 2005 and 2015 Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art and the 2014 Marrakech Biennale, and the art projects The Fountain Archive and Lyrics Records.

Saâdane Afif succeeds Iris Dressler and Hans D. Christ, who commanded the latest edition of Bergen Assembly with the title Actually, The Dead Are Not Dead.
