Art in Quarantine — Marisa Benjamim

UMBIGO invited several artists to reflect on the era we are living in and to think about their artistic production in quarantine times.

Project by the artist Marisa Benjamim.

Hortus Deliciarum, 2020. Collage and ink on paper, 21×42 cm. Preparatory sketches for the recipes (take away) of Hortus Deliciarum

The Hortus Deliciarum (from Latin means garden of delights) is a site-specific project divided into three parts: a greenhouse installed in the public park of Basel, in front of the museum (Solitude Park), the installation inside the museum and edible performances.

The presentations invite the public to get to know and taste Basel’s natural edible flora, creating a new sensory experience based on tasting flowers.

After COVID-19, the Tinguely Museum was forced to close its doors to the public. Hortus Delicium could only be seen through glass.

During this time, I developed a personal “Take away” tasting kit with two recipes, adapted to the new rules of the reopening of the Museum (early June). Visitors can take the recipes home together with the ingredients in a bag and try the recipe at home.
