5 Cultural Suggestions — Andreia Santana

Every week, UMBIGO invites two people to share their 5 cultural suggestions. What can we do at home? From a book to a podcast, album or film: here are recommendations from artists, curators, gallery owners, cultural activists, friends.

We will share the recipe for what makes us better, and we remain united and positive.

Essay

No Focus with Natasha Stagg

I have followed up every day the published essays on the impact of COVIDd-19. I like the intimate approach of this text, where Natasha Stagg (author of Sleeveless – also fantastic) talks about communication failures, the end of places and the introduction of a new era provided by the beginning of this pandemic.

Movie

Opening Night
John Cassavetes
1977

One of my favorite Cassavetes films, where the wonderful Gena Rowlands is confronted with aging through a theatrical performance as dramaturgy within the film itself.

Album

Zombie
Fela Kuti & Afrika’70
1976

I tend to spend a lot of time without listening to music but this album by Fela Kuti always brings me good energy after a day at work.

Performance

Time
David Lamelas
1970

1970 performance, in zoom version, that was live streamed on YouTube on April 17.
