Portuguese Emerging Art 2019
The cultural association EMERGE tries to disseminate projects by emerging Portuguese artists, with exhibitions and the publication of books or catalogues.
Launched in 2017, the Portuguese Emerging Art series selects artists at the beginning of their careers, from a list assessed by a jury that comes from different areas. After an open call, the 2019 edition has 35 artists and a jury composed of Danilo Fortunato (Angolan gallery owner), Heloísa Vivanco (curator), Hugo Dinis (curator), María Gracia de Pedro (researcher) and Patrícia Dias Mendes (director of Fundação PLMJ and sponsor of this initiative).
The range of artists is vast and diversified in their artistic practices and languages, which include ceramics, painting, digital art, sculpture, etc. For the Portuguese Emerging Art 2019, those selected were: Ana Velez, Ana Wever, André Silva, Atelier Contencioso, Atelier SER – Spontaneous Art Movement, Beatriz Coelho, Cristianne de Sá, David Pereira, Develay, Elisa Azevedo, Eunice Artur, Evgenia Emets, Filipe Vilas-Boas, Francisca Aires Mateus, Gil Ferrão, Hugo Lami, Hugo Paquete, Ilana Copque, Lara Portela, Laura Vitorino Rebelo, Ludmila Queirós, Maísa Champalimaud, Márcio Carvalho, Margarida Paiva, Nádia Duvall, Paula Prates, Pedro Forte aKa Corvvs (Corvus), Rodolfo Gil, Rodrigo Vila, Rui Pedro Jorge, Sara Ramone, Sónia Carvalho, Susana Rocha, Tiago Margaça and Tiago Verdade.
The launch will take place on November 9, at Serralves, with the jury mentioned above, and the project’s director and mentor, Daniela Ambrósio and Jorge Reis, respectively. The winner of the prize awarded by Cisterna and the artistic residence TempStudio will be announced as well.
