Umbigo at the 8th edition of N’GOLÁ
The 8th Biennial of Arts and Culture N’GOLÁ, in São Tomé e Príncipe, is a project that draws from entanglement of the art and the visual and urban cultures of Africa. In this sense, even though the insularity of the event and organization, the N’GOLÁ has a global vision of the African arts and culture, trying to establish countries within the African continent.
The 8th edition, curated by the Dutch Renny Ramaker, celebrates again the African arts and assembles a number of exhibitions and happenings, with a focus on photography and performance.
CACAU is the main venue, but all the archipelago establishes a further, in-depth landscape of the several themes explored by the curatorship: colonialism and post-colonialism, global relationships, the intricacies of African arts and cultures, the globalization and neoliberalization of the art world, and the human and physical geographies not only of the islands but also of Africa.
As Media Partner, Umbigo visited N’GOLÁ 2019, documented and report some of the programming through the Instagram account, and in the next printed issue São Tomé e Príncipe will be part of the On the Road section.
Until 18 Agugust, in São Tomé e Príncipe.
