The 16th edition of the Photography Biennial of Vila Franca de Xira
With almost 30 years of existence, the Photography Biennial of Vila Franca de Xira may as well be considered one of the most consistent and important events in Portugal, by exploring the several dimensions of photography.
In three well-known spaces of the city, and coordinated by the curator Sandra Vieira Jürgens, the biennial exhibitions will dilate and show the polymorphic character of photography, such as the essay, the report, the document, the experimental. At Fábrica das Palavras a “more essayistic and reflexive nature” of the medium will be sought; at the Municipal Museum a documental approach is preferred, “present in certain authors and contemporary photographic practices”; and, at the Patriarch’s Storehouse, will be shown the collective exhibition after a deliberation by the prize jury in charge of the three thematic prizes associated with this biennial (the Biennial of Photography prize, the VFX Town Hall prize and Tauromachic prize).
From 26 January to 10 March, don’t miss the 16th edition of the Photography Biennial of Vila Franca de Xira, with the participating photographers Cristiano Luís, Diogo Duarte, Eduardo Sousa Ribeiro, Fábio Cunha, Fernando Marante, José António Quintanilha, Leonor Fonseca, Marta Leite, Nuno Andrade, Rodolfo Gil, Duarte Amaral Netto, João Paulo Serafim, Mariana Gomes Gonçalves, Soraya Vasconcelos, Margarida Correia, Rodrigo Tavarela Peixoto, Tito Mouraz and Valter Vinagre.
