Julião Sarmento and Pedro A. H. Paixão at CIAJG
Julião Sarmento is one of Portugal’s most renowned contemporary artists, with a remarkable work in quantity and quality. He has dozens and dozens of national and international exhibitions, attesting an impressive number of his works.
However, many pieces were never exhibited, unseen work which was never installed properly, perhaps waiting for the right place and the right time. Leopard in a Cage gives light to them in a first-time exhibition, outlining the career of an artist who embraces several and experimental media.
Also, Pedro A. H. Paixão is challenged to exhibit his work together alongside Coleção José de Guimarães, allowing a new dialogic perspective. Between drawings and sound, Paixão, in Mundo Flutuante, rehearses an articulated link “which stresses and gives the works exhibited its disturbing character and familiar oddness.”
Lábios de Flamingo must be seen as well, something that reinitiates the debate on the construction of history, through the creation of an imaginary museum, as conveyed by Malraux.
Leopard in a Cage and Mundo Flutante can be visited until 7 October and Lábios de Flamingo until 7 August, at CIAJG, Guimarães.
