Anozero Biennial | 2nd Edition | Coimbra
It has been considerably discussed the present validity of biennial after its banalization. And if it’s true that this concept has become fashionable in the last decade, capable of dissolving the impact once had, it is also true that this is a model that has been consistently reviewed and adapted to national, regional and local contexts, condensing and diversifying programs and resources in favor of arts and culture.
The second edition of the Anozero Biennial attests the necessity of this event in this particular city, by assembling a vast and interesting program and being able to capitalize according to the existing institutions and heritage.
Founded by the Plastic Arts Circle of Coimbra – which greatly contributed to the dissemination of contemporary arts in Portugal, welcoming rather seminal artists like Ernesto de Sousa and Túlia Saldanha –, with the support of the town hall and the university, the Biennial organizes a number of exhibitions scattered through all the city, with a total sum of 35 international and national artists. This edition is curated by Delfim Sardo and Luiza Teixeira de Freitas who conceived the program around the title Curar e Reparar [Healing and Repairing], two of the most present necessities in our current world, by trying “to think in those questions aimed to the broken machine of the world, to the frailty of the body, the uncertainty of the economy, the need for a permanent compensation”.
From 11 November to 20 December, don’t miss the Anozero Biennial in the historic city of Coimbra. Check the full program here.
