Azores Burning Summer 2017
There’s something about Azores that welcomes deep insight. The loneliness and the omnipresence of elements in everyday tasks gives a mystic aura to this archipelago’s places. The clouds are always present, the wind and humidity too; the green color scatters through vast vales with the horizon at the ocean; and the dirt is dark, volcanic, and fertile.
It comes to no surprise then that this is the ideal space for Land Art or ecology festivals. Azores Burning Summer is a festival that tries to engage local communities with this artistic practice, nature and also attempts to stimulate an ecologic consciousness through several events, but mainly through music.
The headlines have well-known Portuguese musicians (Capitão Fausto and Branko) and it was reinforced in this edition; a series of talks and conferences will introduce environmental themes and stimulate a political discourse regarding eco-friendly activities; four Land Art Installations will be spread all over Porto Formoso and; an exhibition of electric vehicles will encourage the viewers to be focused in green technology in cars.
Azores Burning Summers goes from 1 to 2 September, in Porto Formoso, São Miguel Island. The event will feature an ending ceremony with a burning fire in the beach.
